Rear Admiral Danilo M Cortez, the acting Navy chief, will relinquish his command of the Philippine Navy to Rear Admiral Alexander P Pama, the incumbent Navy Vice Commander, 9 o’clock in the morning Tuesday, 04 January 2011 at the Navy Headquarters in Roxas Blvd, Manila. His Excellency President Benigno S Aquino III, Commander-In-Chief, Armed Forces of the Philippines, will be the Guest of Honor and Presiding Officer during the ceremony.
Around 8 o’clock in the morning, prior the change of command ceremony, the Honorable Secretary Voltaire T Gazmin, Secretary of National Defense, will lead the blessing of the Hall of Flags, Commander’s Lounge and commissioning of BRP Emilio Liwanag (PG 118).
The newly-constructed Hall of Flags is where standards of the different Navy units will be displayed. This will also serve as receiving area for command visitors. The Commander’s Lounge will be used as function area for use of senior officers during conferences and gatherings. Meanwhile, BRP Emilio Liwanag (PG 118), a refurbished Chamsuri class patrol vessel of the South Korean Navy, will be commissioned in the Philippine Navy.
The activity will also be attended by General Ricardo A David, Chief of Staff, AFP, Major Services Commander, other J-staff officers from General Headquarters and Fleet-Marine Unit Commanders.
